The Mega Evolution Era (2024–Present)
The Mega Evolution era succeeded Scarlet & Violet in late 2024, reintroducing Mega Evolution as a central game mechanic with a refreshed card design language. The era features updated rarity tiers, new card types, and artwork styles that draw on the Mega Evolution concept from Pokemon X & Y while incorporating modern design sensibilities. Many of the era's Mega Evolutions are tied to Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
For master set collectors, the Mega Evolution era continues the trend of large main sets with reverse holofoils. Plan your binder layouts and budgets accordingly — Cardrake's binder planner is available for all released sets.

The Latest Set and What's Coming Next
The 30th Celebration anniversary set is the latest release, out September 16 after Pitch Black in July. What's left of 2026 is one more main expansion, Delta Reign, plus the rest of the 30th Celebration product waves. Here is what has released and what is still coming.
30th Celebration: Released September 16, 2026
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon TCG, first released in Japan in October 1996, and the milestone got its own special set. The core 30th Celebration products released September 16 and sold out within minutes at launch. A few details stand out:
- The first worldwide simultaneous Pokemon TCG release, rather than a staggered regional rollout. Europe got day-one product for the first time.
- All-foil packs of six cards: five foil cards plus a foil Basic Energy. There is no non-holo tier anywhere in the set.
- One of 30 uniquely numbered Pikachu cards is guaranteed in every pack, each drawn by a different artist.
- A new rarity called Futuristic rare (FUR), debuting with Mewtwo ex and Mew ex illustrated by YOSHIROTTEN.
- A 30-card Classic Collection of stamped reprints spanning Base Set to Paldea Evolved, doubling the 25-card subset from Celebrations 2021.
- There is no English booster box. The rest of the lineup lands in waves: the Booster Bundle and Day & Night Mini Tins on October 2, the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks on October 30, the Day and Night Ultra-Premium Collections, Ditto Premium Collection and Mew and Mewtwo Figure Collections on November 6, and the Binder Collection and Pokemon ex Tin on December 4. The two $179.99 Ultra-Premium Collections are the only guaranteed source of a Classic Collection pack.
Pull rates TCGplayer measured across more than 3,000 opened packs are the friendliest of the Mega Evolution era so far. The set guide covers the full card list, current prices, where to buy each wave, and a binder planner for the master set: open the 30th Celebration set guide.
Delta Reign (ME06): Releasing November 6, 2026
The sixth main set is headlined by Mega Rayquaza ex, tied to the Pokemon Legends: Z-A DLC, with Mega Golurk ex, Mega Malamar ex, and Mega Golisopod ex in support. It also adds Legendary Stadium cards, two Stadium halves on one card that are played together. The Japanese version, Storm Emeralda, released July 31, 2026, which is why some collectors still call the set Storm Emerald. The Pokemon Company International has officially announced the English set for November 6, 2026, with prerelease tournaments starting October 24. That makes it a longer gap than the six to eight weeks seen earlier in the era. Booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes, a Build & Battle box and several collections launch on release day. The Delta Reign pre-release guide tracks revealed cards and presale prices, and the binder planner opens with the English card list.
Pitch Black (ME05): Released July 17, 2026
The fifth main Mega Evolution era set, Pitch Black, released July 17, 2026. It runs to over 115 cards, including more than 20 Trainers and 35-plus cards with special illustrations. Mega Darkrai ex is the set mascot and headline chase, joined by Mega Zeraora ex, Mega Chandelure ex, and Mega Excadrill ex. The set leans Dark-type with a shadows-and-nightmares theme; its Japanese counterpart is Abyss Eye.

Pokemon TCG Release Cadence
Main Mega Evolution expansions have landed on a steady roughly eight-week beat through 2026, with Delta Reign breaking the rhythm for a longer gap into November:
The Pokemon Company follows a consistent annual release schedule:
- 4 main expansions per year — Released roughly quarterly. Main sets contain 180-280 cards and are sold in booster boxes, ETBs, and collection products.
- 2-3 special sets per year — Released between main expansions. Special sets vary in size (70-200 cards) and distribution method.
- Promotional products — Tins, collection boxes, and special bundles release throughout the year, often tied to holidays or competitive events.
Japanese sets typically release 2-3 months before their English counterparts. Japanese product reveals serve as reliable previews of upcoming English set content, though card numbering and some card inclusions may differ.
Planning Your Master Set Collection
Staying ahead of new releases helps you budget and plan your collecting:
Before Release
- Monitor Japanese set reveals for card list previews (2-3 months before English release)
- Estimate master set size: main set cards × 2 (for reverse holos) plus Secret Rares
- Budget based on set size using our master set budgeting guide
- Pre-order 1-2 booster boxes or an ETB at MSRP from a trusted retailer if you enjoy pack opening
At Release
- Use Cardrake's binder planner to map your 9-pocket page layout
- Open pre-ordered sealed product to start your base card collection
- Avoid buying chase cards during the first two weeks — hype pricing inflates singles by 30-50%
2-4 Weeks After Release
- Begin targeted singles purchasing as prices stabilize. Use our singles buying guide for platform recommendations
- Complete commons and uncommons first (cheapest, most available)
- Monitor chase card prices for dips during restock waves
1-3 Months After Release
- Acquire remaining chase cards and Secret Rares as the market stabilizes
- Complete reverse holofoils, which often have the thinnest supply window
- Consider grading your top chase cards while they are in pack-fresh condition

What Pokemon TCG sets are coming out in 2026?
2026 continues the Mega Evolution era and includes the 30th anniversary set. Released so far: Mega Evolution (ME01), Phantasmal Flames (ME02), Ascended Heroes (ME2.5), Perfect Order (ME03), Chaos Rising (ME04), Pitch Black (ME05, July 17), all three First Partner Illustration Collections, and the 30th Celebration set (September 16). Still to come: Delta Reign (ME06, November 6), plus the remaining 30th Celebration product waves through December 4.
What is the 30th Celebration set?
30th Celebration is the Pokemon TCG's 30th anniversary set. It released September 16, 2026 as the first worldwide simultaneous release, and the first wave sold out within minutes. Every pack holds six all-foil cards and guarantees one of 30 uniquely numbered Pikachu, each by a different artist. It debuts a new rarity called Futuristic rare and includes a 30-card Classic Collection of stamped reprints. The English lineup runs to more than 14 products across five waves through December 4. Full 30th Celebration guide.
How many Pokemon sets release per year?
The Pokemon Company typically releases 4 main expansions per year (roughly quarterly), plus 2-3 special sets between main releases. This totals about 6-7 new products a year.
What is the Mega Evolution era?

Should I pre-order upcoming Pokemon sets?
Pre-ordering from reputable retailers at MSRP is generally safe. Avoid third-party sellers charging inflated prices. Most modern sets get adequate print runs and prices settle toward MSRP within weeks. For Delta Reign, an MSRP pre-order is fine but rarely urgent. 30th Celebration is the set where timing matters: the first wave sold out within minutes, and there is no English booster box. More waves are still coming, starting with the Booster Bundle and Day & Night Mini Tins on October 2, so an MSRP pre-order from a trusted retailer beats paying resale. Current availability and where to buy each wave are tracked on the 30th Celebration set guide.
How do I plan a master set for an upcoming release?
Wait for the full card list reveal, then use Cardrake's binder planner to map your page layout. Budget based on set size, and start buying singles 2-3 weeks after release when hype pricing settles.
