Acquisition Strategy
- • Monitor price trends - chase cards often fluctuate based on tournament results and influencer coverage
- • Consider condition flexibility - a LP/MP copy can save 30-50% on vintage cards
- • Check multiple marketplaces - prices vary significantly between TCGPlayer, eBay, and local stores
- • Buy during market dips - major releases and reprints often cause temporary price drops

About this set
Journey Together is the first main expansion to make Trainer's Pokémon the entire concept rather than a subset or bonus gallery. N's Zoroark, Lillie's Clefairy, Hop's Zacian, and Iono's Bellibolt are each ex cards with full-art Trainer depictions alongside their signature Pokémon. The last time this mechanic appeared in a main set was EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua in 2004; the Sword & Shield Trainer Gallery subsets from 2022 are the closest modern equivalent, but those were tacked inside other sets. Lillie's Clefairy ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. is the unusual chase card: its value is entirely about the Trainer, not the Pokémon. Clefairy on its own would be a cheap single. Lillie makes it the most expensive card in the set. The set's scope (333 with reverses) is smaller than Surging Sparks' 382 and much cheaper to complete. The set has no heavy competitive staples, so prices are driven by collector demand rather than tournament rotation, which tends to mean slower appreciation but less crash risk. The four Trainer pack artworks (Iono, N, Lillie, Hop) give the product a consistent visual identity. You either care about Trainer bonds across game generations or you don't. There's not much middle ground.
Where Journey Together fits in the era
Journey Together released March 28, 2025 as the ninth main Scarlet & Violet expansion. The Japanese version, Battle Partners, released January 24, 2025, just over 2 months earlier, giving importers an early look at the full SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. lineup before the English set hit. The Trainer's Pokémon mechanic had previous appearances in EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004) and the Sword & Shield Trainer Gallery subsets built into Silver Tempest and Astral Radiance (2022), but this is the first main set where that theme is the entire product rather than a supplemental section. The four featured Trainers span four different game eras: N from Black & White (2010), Lillie from Sun & Moon (2016), Hop from Sword & Shield (2019), Iono from Scarlet & Violet (2022). Lillie in particular has a dedicated collector following from the Sun & Moon games. Her card holding its price point over a full year reflects sustained demand, not hype. The set launched roughly 60 days after Prismatic Evolutions (January 2025), which had absorbed enormous allocation attention. Journey Together entered a calmer market, which likely helped box prices stabilize rather than spike and crash. Sealed boxes launched above MSRP · Suggested retail priceThe official US retail price set by The Pokemon Company. Stores and resellers often charge more. and kept climbing, reaching a 69% premium by the April 2026 one-year mark and outperforming most 2025 standard set releases on sealed appreciation.
Collecting challenges
The total scope is manageable: 190 unique cards, 333 with reverses, fits in one binder. The SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. path is not manageable if you're relying on packs. SIR pull rate is 1.16% per pack, and with only 6 SIRs in the set, a box of 36 packs gives you less than a 50% chance of pulling any SIR at all. At secondary market box prices, the EV · Expected valueThe average value of the cards you would pull from a pack or box. Useful for comparing products, not a promise. math is ugly: on average each pack returns a fraction of what it costs. Lillie's Clefairy ex is 23% of total set value. Before you buy it, you need a plan, not a hope. Budget via singles in stages: the base set first (3-4 weeks), then all 6 SIRs and other secret rares (2-4 months), then the 143 reverse holos (2-4 months), with the whole build spanning 8-12 months. The 3 Hyper Rares pull even less often than SIRs (0.73%) but sell cheap as singles. Do not submit them for grading, the fee is 5-10x the card value. Grading math works only for Lillie's Clefairy ex, where the PSA · Professional Sports AuthenticatorThe largest card grading company. A PSA 10 is its top grade and carries the biggest price premium. 10 premium over raw is wide enough to matter, but PSA 10 rate on new SV SIRs runs 25-35%, so pre-screen centering before you pay the submission fee. When to buy
Singles panic-priced. Sealed carries 30–50% premium. Wait if you can.
Best window for singles. Chase cards find their floor.
Bulk dips 15–20% on reprint news. Chase cards stay steady.
Sealed and top chase cards begin appreciation cycle.
Collecting strategy
Most cards in this set are worth around $0.32 as singles. Opening packs is the fun way to build your base of commons and uncommons with a chance at lucky pulls — but chase cards are statistically unlikely from sealed product. For most master set collectors, the smart approach is packs for bulk, singles for the rest.
Mix of singles and strategic pack opening
Open 1-2 Enhanced Booster Display Boxes at MSRP for the opening experience and bulk completion (expect 30-50% of base set from 1-2 boxes), then buy remaining singles including all 6 SIRs. Grade Lillie's Clefairy ex if pulled with 60/40+ centering; a PSA 10 on a pulled copy is the best possible outcome for this approach.

What collectors are saying
- Released March 28, 2025 - first main expansion to feature Trainer's Pokémon mechanic since EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua (2004), bringing N, Lillie, Hop, and Iono's Pokémon as dedicated card treatments
- Lillie's Clefairy ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. emerged as the defining chase card - a sleeper that surprised collectors with its sustained high value relative to the rest of the set
- A mid-sized set with a 333-card master (including 143 reverse holos) keeps scope manageable - smaller than Surging Sparks and noticeably cheaper to complete
- Community reception mixed at reveal: pack artwork criticized ('You'd think this is a mini set based on how ugly the pack artwork is') while others praised the Trainer-bond theme as fresh for modern SV era
- Salamence ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. and N's Zoroark ex SIR provide secondary chase targets, creating a three-card SIR tier far below Lillie's Clefairy in value

- Iono's Bellibolt ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. had strong pre-release hype based on Iono fan popularity but settled well below the hype - speculation traps hit hard in first two weeks

- Set value concentration is extreme: Lillie's Clefairy ex alone represents ~23% of total set value, making it a true outlier rather than a balanced chase hierarchy
- April 2026 market shows sealed booster boxes at a 69% premium over MSRP · Suggested retail priceThe official US retail price set by The Pokemon Company. Stores and resellers often charge more. - which makes sealed holding more attractive than opening for most collectors

- Community consensus by mid-2025: 'underrated but not undervalued' - the set has appeal but Lillie's Clefairy makes budget master set completion genuinely difficult
Tips from the community
- Buy Lillie's Clefairy ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. via singles rather than opening packs - SIR pull rate is 1:86 packs (1.16%), meaning you'd need to open roughly 7-8 booster boxes on average to guarantee finding it
- Complete the base set first (3-4 weeks) before targeting SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. - commons and uncommons are cheap, and getting them done means your remaining budget goes toward the expensive cards rather than bulk

- Counterfeit risk LOW for most cards given values - Lillie's Clefairy ex is the only card warranting authentication caution; standard UV and QR verification is sufficient for cheaper singles
- Reprint probability MEDIUM-HIGH: standard SV print run, no indication of print limitation; elevated box prices may face correction if Pokemon Center restocks or a wide reprint hits retail
Scarlet & Violet Journey Together grading guide
Which Scarlet & Violet Journey Together cards are worth the $20+/card grading fee? PSA 10 premiums vary significantly by rarity tier. See our complete grading guide for how grading works, costs, and international submission options.
Tier 1 - Grade Selectively
Worth gradingLillie's Clefairy ex offers the best grading economics in the set. 3x-4x PSA 10 multiplier more than covers $75-150 grading cost if copy grades out. Pre-screen 60/40+ centering required. Hop's Zacian ex secondary candidate with sword-type collector demand sustaining graded premiums.
Tier 2 - Conditional Grading
Worth gradingSalamence has Dragon collector demand sustaining moderate graded premiums. N's Zoroark holds value with competitive collector overlap. Grade only pristine copies (60/40+ centering, no whitening). Do not submit if grading costs exceed 50% of projected PSA 10 value.
Tier 3 - Not Recommended
Skip gradingIono's Bellibolt at $25-32 raw barely justifies $75 submission costs even with a 3x multiplier. Hyper Rares are statistically scarce but low-value ($8-15 each); grading costs dwarf any premium. Keep raw.
Tier 4 - Never Grade
Skip gradingGrading costs ($75-150) vastly exceed any graded value. No economic justification for submission on bulk cards from a standard 2025 SV set.
Before you submit — PSA checklist, fees, and tips▾
PSA 10 requirements
- Centering
- 55/45 minimum front and back. Modern SIRs frequently fail here — pre-screen every candidate.
- Corners
- Sharp, no whitening under magnification. Sleeve the moment you pull the card.
- Surface
- No scratches, print lines, or holo damage. SIR foils are especially vulnerable from the factory.
- Edges
- No chipping or fraying. Inspect under bright light.
PSA service tiers
- Value
- $20/card, 4–6 month turnaround. Right for raw values $75–500.
- Regular
- $50/card, 6–8 week turnaround. Right for raw values $500+.
- Express
- $75–150/card, 2–3 week turnaround. Only worth it above $1,000 raw.
Budget for a 5-card submission: $135–170 once you add shipping, insurance, and supplies.
Tips from experienced submitters
- • Pre-screen with a loupe — 70%+ of modern cards fail centering.
- • PSA Collectors Club ($99/year) pays for itself with 2–3 value-tier submissions.
- • Ship in batches of 10+ to amortize shipping and insurance.
- • PSA 9 typically sells at 40–60% of PSA 10 — still a premium over raw.
