Acquisition Strategy
- • Monitor price trends - chase cards often fluctuate based on tournament results and influencer coverage
- • Consider condition flexibility - a LP/MP copy can save 30-50% on vintage cards
- • Check multiple marketplaces - prices vary significantly between TCGPlayer, eBay, and local stores
- • Buy during market dips - major releases and reprints often cause temporary price drops

About this set
Temporal Forces is the Paradox set. Where most SV releases put a Tera-type Pokemon on the box and called it a day, this one committed to the Ancient/Future split as an actual visual identity. Ancient-type cards look warm and worn, like field sketches from a prehistoric expedition. Future-type cards go cold chrome, all mechanical angles and clinical framing. On the same shelf, side by side, they look like they came from different eras, which is exactly the point. The ACE SPEC reintroduction after nearly a decade gave competitive players something to care about beyond pull rates, and the guaranteed box pull meant the mechanic was actually accessible. Walking Wake ex and Iron Leaves ex are Paradox forms of Suicune and Virizion, so there's a layer of legendary Pokemon nostalgia that other sets in the SV era mostly lack. And then there's Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards., Ogerpon's first English TCG card and the artwork that collectors kept citing as a reason to collect the set even if they weren't interested in Paradox Pokemon. It's a set with a coherent identity, which is rarer than it should be.
Where Temporal Forces fits in the era
Temporal Forces released March 22, 2024 as the fifth main Scarlet & Violet expansion, pulling from Japan's SV5a Crimson Haze which came out at the same time. This was the first English set to put Paradox Pokemon on cards as the primary focus: the ancient and future variants introduced in the Scarlet and Violet DLC content (The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk) got their TCG debut here. The ACE SPEC mechanic came back after about a decade away, last seen in the Black & White era around 2012-2013. The Modern versions are more powerful than the originals and the competitive scene adapted quickly, with Iron Crown ex and Raging Bolt ex archetypes defining much of the Spring 2024 Standard format. Ogerpon debuted in the September 2023 DLC and appeared on an English TCG card six months later, which is a reasonably fast turnaround. Release timing overlapped with Pokemon Day 2024 events, which helped generate early attention. Community reception was noticeably warmer than some of the preceding SV3-SV4 releases, largely because the ACE SPEC novelty and the Paradox art variety gave collectors and players two separate reasons to care.
Collecting challenges
The main set sounds manageable until you factor in the 162 reverse holofoils, the Trainer Gallery (a separate subset with separate numbering), and ACE SPEC variants. The real scope is 400+ cards, and collections that start with 'just the base set to go' end up surprised. Singles are the efficient route; opening sealed product costs meaningfully more and is justified by the experience, not the math. The ACE SPEC mechanic creates a specific trap: one per box sounds helpful, but with 10+ different ACE SPECs in the pool, opening six boxes typically delivers duplicates rather than completion. Buy the specific ACE SPECs you need as singles. SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. pull rates are standard SV-era (~1 per 36 packs), so chasing a specific SIR through sealed product means 250-400 packs on average, so buy Ogerpon ex SIR and Raging Bolt ex SIR directly. Pricing on Raging Bolt ex, Iron Crown ex, and Fezandipiti ex doesn't follow pure collector patterns because VGC tournament results move those prices independently. You can watch a card you planned to buy next month jump 35% after a regional championship.

When to buy
Singles panic-priced. Sealed carries 30–50% premium. Wait if you can.
Best window for singles. Chase cards find their floor.
Bulk dips 15–20% on reprint news. Chase cards stay steady.
Sealed and top chase cards begin appreciation cycle.
Collecting strategy
Most cards in this set are worth around $0.3 as singles. Opening packs is the fun way to build your base of commons and uncommons with a chance at lucky pulls — but chase cards are statistically unlikely from sealed product. For most master set collectors, the smart approach is packs for bulk, singles for the rest.
Mix of singles and strategic pack opening
Open 3-4 booster boxes at MSRP for bulk cards, ACE SPEC pulls, and the opening experience; this gets you to 50-65% completion. Buy remaining singles over 3-4 months. Prioritize SIRs first (highest volatility), then ACE SPECs, then Trainer Gallery fills, finally reverse holofoils. Grade Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR if pulled with clean centering. Set aside most of the budget for cards and a slice for storage.

Community insights
From collector discussions, forums, and social media.
What collectors are saying
- Released March 22, 2024, Temporal Forces was the first SV set to put Paradox Pokemon (ancient and future forms) in the chase slots rather than standard Tera ex, which shifted the collector conversation noticeably at launch
- Community split on Walking Wake ex and Iron Leaves ex: purists wanted them in a dedicated Paradox set, others appreciated the Suicune/Virizion connection that elevated what could have been generic rare slots
- The Ancient and Future Trainer subtype launched alongside the ACE SPEC mechanic returning after a decade, and competitive players on PokeBeach and /r/pkmntcg spent the first month debating whether Modern ACE SPECs were balanced relative to the originals
- ACE SPEC reintroduction proved divisive: limited to one per deck (same as old format), but Modern ACE SPECs have meaningfully higher power floors than the XY-era versions, which some players felt pushed out non-ACE SPEC decks
- Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. got more discussion than anything else in the set. First Ogerpon in English TCG, artwork praised across Reddit, YouTube, and Discord as one of the standout SIRs of the SV era
- Raging Bolt ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. and Iron Thorns ex SIR pulled in VGC players alongside collectors from Q2 2024 onward, which kept prices from softening the way pure collector-demand cards often do post-release
- Plenty of buyers were caught off guard by set scope: the main set number doesn't include the Trainer Gallery, which is numbered separately and adds a separate tracking and sourcing project
- The art direction drew consistent praise. Ancient-type cards use warm, worn illustration styles that look completely different from the cold chrome aesthetic on Future-type cards, making this one of the more visually varied SV sets on the shelf
Tips from the community
- One ACE SPEC guaranteed per booster box is nice, but there are 10+ distinct ACE SPECs in the pool. Identify which ones you need for your master set early and buy those as singles. You'll get duplicates before you get the specific ones you want from boxes.
- Walking Wake ex and Iron Leaves ex have promotional versions with different numbering than the set-numbered SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards.. Decide before you start buying whether promos count for your master set, because that changes the sourcing and cost significantly.
- Buy Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. directly. At roughly 1 SIR per 36 packs, chasing a specific SIR through sealed product means opening 250-400 packs on average for that one card. Just buy it.
- Raging Bolt ex and Iron Crown ex both see real competitive play in SV Standard. Because competitive demand props up prices, buy these earlier in your build rather than waiting for dips that may not come.
- Ancient and Future Trainer cards are cheap and easy to find. Knock these out first. Completing a full subtype early in the project gives you a sense of momentum before you get into the expensive SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. phase.
- Open 2-3 booster boxes for bulk commons, uncommons, and your first few ACE SPEC pulls, then switch entirely to singles for SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. and Illustration Rares. You'll overpay for those through pack opening.
- The Trainer Gallery is a separate tracking project from the main set. Budget extra for it and track it separately from the start, or you'll think you're close to done when you still have 30+ gallery cards left.
- For reverse holofoils, find TCGPlayer sellers listing bulk reverse sets rather than individual commons. Paying bulk rates beats pulling them randomly from packs by a wide margin.
- Fezandipiti ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. is tied to VGC tournament results. If a major regional is coming up and the Fezandipiti deck is posting results, the price spikes fast. Watch the tournament calendar if you want the better entry price.
- Ancient-type SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. (Sandy Shocks, Raging Bolt, Iron Boulder) have a different buyer pool than Future-type SIRs. Prices on each can move independently based on competitive meta, so monitor both sides separately.
Market insights
- Stabilized 2025 pricing on the top chase cards holds a clear pecking order: Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. on top, then Raging Bolt ex SIR, Walking Wake ex SIR, Iron Leaves ex SIR, and Fezandipiti ex SIR
- ACE SPEC cards price all over the map, with the Computer Search reprint at the top of the pool. Some ACE SPECs are worth more than average SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. in this set.
- Via targeted singles, the complete master set (main set + Trainer Gallery + reverses) runs well below the sealed product route, which also carries substantial variance depending on ACE SPEC pulls.
- SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. pull rate is roughly 1 per 36 packs, same as other SV-era sets. One booster box statistically yields 1 SIR. Getting all SIRs randomly would require 10-12 boxes.
- Booster boxes held near MSRP · Suggested retail priceThe official US retail price set by The Pokemon Company. Stores and resellers often charge more. through 2024-2025. This set didn't suffer the 2-3x markup seen on special sets, which makes pack opening more defensible here than on premium releases.
- Paradox Pokemon SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. price 15-25% above comparable Tera ex SIRs from other SV sets. The combination of collector appeal and competitive use explains the gap.
- The Trainer Gallery adds a meaningful chunk to total master set cost. It's consistently the line item collectors forget to include when budgeting, which is why estimated costs always seem lower than actual spending.
- Iron Thorns ex jumped 30-50% following regional championship Top 8 results in mid-2024 and held much of that for 6-8 weeks. Tournament results drive short-term price windows that matter if you're timing purchases.
- Japanese Crimson Haze released at the same time. English SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. run 20-30% above Japanese equivalents. For bulk ex cards and non-chase singles, Japanese imports via Buyee offset shipping costs on larger orders.
- The ACE SPEC box guarantee puts a floor under sealed booster box prices. Even a slow-moving box has a pull-value floor because buyers know they're getting at least one ACE SPEC, which helps secondary market prices stay rational.
Watch out for
- The main set alone is not the full scope. Add 162 reverse holofoils and the Trainer Gallery subset and you're well past 400 cards total. Budget for the real number from day one.
- One ACE SPEC per box does not mean you'll complete the ACE SPEC pool from boxes. There are 10+ distinct ACE SPECs. Opening 5-6 boxes will get you duplicates. Buy the specific singles you need.
- Walking Wake ex and Iron Leaves ex exist as both set-numbered SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. and promotional cards with different numbering. Decide before you start buying whether promos count for your master set. The cost difference is real.
- Don't open Build & Battle Boxes for Temporal Forces. Four packs at a steep effective per-pack cost with no ACE SPEC guarantee is the worst value format in this set. Buy the promo card as a single if you need it.
- Raging Bolt ex and Fezandipiti ex prices follow VGC tournament results, not just collector demand. A format rotation or meta shift can drop them 30-40%. If you're grading for investment, track tournament standings.
- Counterfeit risk is moderate on Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards.. Verify holo texture, UV pattern, and QR code on any pricier purchase from private sellers or low-feedback marketplace accounts.
- Trainer Gallery cards don't pull at the same rate as main set cards. Opening boxes does not simultaneously complete both. The Gallery requires separate sourcing.
- Reverse holofoils for the full base set are a real cost in singles. This isn't a small line item, and it's consistently the cost that surprises collectors who budget based on main set card count alone.
- Computer Search ACE SPEC prices on collector nostalgia above its functional value. The original Computer Search was a 2012 reprint target, and that demand inflates the 2024 version. Factor this in when comparing ACE SPEC costs to SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards..
- Booster box pricing partly reflects the ACE SPEC floor value. This set's boxes hold price better than sets without the guarantee, but it also means you're already paying for that pull in the box cost.
Scarlet & Violet Temporal Forces grading guide
Which Scarlet & Violet Temporal Forces cards are worth the $20+/card grading fee? PSA 10 premiums vary significantly by rarity tier. See our complete grading guide for how grading works, costs, and international submission options.
Tier 1 - Strong Grading Case
Worth gradingTeal Mask Ogerpon ex has the strongest first-appearance collector demand, with PSA 10 copies commanding a meaningful premium over raw. Raging Bolt ex has competitive play sustaining long-term demand. Pre-screen for 60/40+ centering; SV print quality is consistent but centering varies. PSA 10 rate estimated 25-35% for well-centered copies.
Tier 2 - Conditional Grading
Worth gradingFezandipiti ex has VGC tournament demand supporting PSA 10 premiums. Grade these only with pristine 60/40+ centering copies and long-term investment intent. Break-even analysis: PSA grading fees $25-75 vs $30-55 expected premium means grade only top 10% of pulled copies.
Tier 3 - ACE SPEC Selective
Skip gradingACE SPECs are an odd grading case: competitive demand, modest raw values. Computer Search nostalgia makes it the strongest candidate. PSA 10 premium is theoretically 2x-3x, but grading cost at $25-75 per card makes it marginal. Personal collection value only, unless Computer Search clears $25 raw consistently.
Tier 4 - Do Not Grade
Skip gradingGrading costs ($25-75 minimum) exceed realistic premium value on all bulk cards. Temporal Forces is well-printed; bulk cards stay raw. Only grade if completing a PSA set for personal display goals, not investment.

PSA 10 requirements
- Centering
- 55/45 minimum front and back. Modern SIRs frequently fail here — pre-screen every candidate.
- Corners
- Sharp, no whitening under magnification. Sleeve the moment you pull the card.
- Surface
- No scratches, print lines, or holo damage. SIR foils are especially vulnerable from the factory.
- Edges
- No chipping or fraying. Inspect under bright light.
PSA service tiers
- Value
- $20/card, 4–6 month turnaround. Right for raw values $75–500.
- Regular
- $50/card, 6–8 week turnaround. Right for raw values $500+.
- Express
- $75–150/card, 2–3 week turnaround. Only worth it above $1,000 raw.
Budget for a 5-card submission: $135–170 once you add shipping, insurance, and supplies.
Tips from experienced submitters
- • Pre-screen with a loupe — 70%+ of modern cards fail centering.
- • PSA Collectors Club ($99/year) pays for itself with 2–3 value-tier submissions.
- • Ship in batches of 10+ to amortize shipping and insurance.
- • PSA 9 typically sells at 40–60% of PSA 10 — still a premium over raw.

What are ACE SPEC cards and how do I get them in Temporal Forces?▾
ACE SPEC cards are powerful Trainer cards that returned after about a decade away. You can only run one per deck. Temporal Forces guarantees one ACE SPEC per booster box (36 packs), with 10+ distinct ACE SPECs in the pool including Computer Search, Neo Upper Energy, Sparkling Crystal, and Legend Plate. Opening one box guarantees you one ACE SPEC. It does not guarantee the specific one you want. Buy the ones you need as singles.
Should I buy Walking Wake ex and Iron Leaves ex as singles or try to pull them?▾
Buy as singles. Walking Wake ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. and Iron Leaves ex SIR pull at standard SIR rates, roughly 1 per 36 packs. Getting each specific card randomly takes 250-400 packs on average. That's a sealed-product bill many times what the two cards cost combined as singles. The promotional versions also exist with different numbering, which adds a decision about which version counts for your set. Just buy the set-numbered versions directly.
What is the Trainer Gallery subset and is it required for a master set?▾
The Trainer Gallery is a subset of full-art cards featuring Pokemon with their Trainers, numbered with a TG prefix separate from the main set. It continues the gallery format that ran through Sword & Shield era. Whether it's required is a personal call, but most collectors building master sets include it. It adds a meaningful chunk to your budget and needs to be sourced separately since gallery cards pull on different rates from main set packs.
Which Temporal Forces cards have competitive value and hold their price?▾
Cards with both collector and competitive demand hold price best. Raging Bolt ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. and Iron Crown ex SIR are tournament-played staples. Fezandipiti ex SIR spiked following VGC results. ACE SPECs stay in demand because the one-per-deck rule means any deck that wants one has to buy one. Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR is pure collector demand driven by first-appearance status and artwork quality. Cards that only have collector demand are more exposed if community interest cools.
How does Temporal Forces compare to other SV sets for master set collecting?▾
Upper-middle tier for SV collector appeal. Better than Obsidian Flames (less interesting chase) and Paldea Evolved (similar scope, weaker art). Below Paradox Rift for Paradox Pokemon density, below Scarlet & Violet 151 for nostalgia. The ACE SPEC mechanic and the Ancient/Future art contrast give it more identity than most SV base sets. Teal Mask Ogerpon ex SIR · Special Illustration RareThe top full-art rarity for Pokemon ex and Trainer cards, and usually a set's most valuable cards. is one of the better single-card artworks in the whole SV era. Worth completing, not just owning.
What are the most common mistakes collectors make with Temporal Forces?▾
Three consistent ones. First, forgetting the Trainer Gallery exists and under-budgeting for it. Second, trying to pull specific ACE SPECs from boxes. With 10+ in the pool you'll get duplicates before you get the ones you need. Buy them as singles. Third, treating reverse holofoils as a minor cost. 162 reverse variants add up to a real line item that isn't obvious when you're thinking about 162 main set cards.
