Cardrake Chase Score

A genuinely charming art card held back as a chase by wide supply. People love the Saboteri scene, but it came one per ETB.

VariantsCard variants

SVP 203 is the black star promo version of Saboteri's Team Rocket's Wobbuffet, packed into Destined Rivals Elite Trainer Boxes from May 2025. It carries the same illustration-rare scene as the in-set art card, just with a promo stamp instead of a set number.

The storyThe ETB promo twin of one of Destined Rivals' best-loved art cards

Destined Rivals leaned hard into Team Rocket flavor, and the illustration rares were the reason people opened the set. Team Rocket's Wobbuffet by Saboteri was a standout. SVP 203 is that exact art, lifted out of the booster packs and dropped into Elite Trainer Boxes as a black star promo. It released alongside the set on May 30, 2025.

“Black star promo version of the Saboteri illustration rare, found in Destined Rivals ETBs from May 30, 2025”

There are two flavors of this promo. The standard SVP 203 came in the regular Destined Rivals Elite Trainer Box. A second variant carrying the Pokemon Center logo shipped in the Pokemon Center ETB. They share the artwork, but the stamp tells them apart, and collectors track them separately.

For a master set builder this card sits in the promo bucket, not the main Destined Rivals checklist. The in-set illustration rare is #82. SVP 203 is its own line item if you collect the SVP promo run, which is one of the trickier sets to call complete because entries trickle out across boxes, tins, and events over a whole generation.

By the numbersMarket analysis

Price context

This is a mass-distributed ETB promo, so supply is wide. It trades in modest territory, well below the set's top illustration and special illustration rares. The art carries it more than scarcity does.

Price trend

Pricing softened after the initial Destined Rivals launch rush. That is the normal pattern for an ETB box-topper promo as more boxes hit shelves. Graded gem-mint copies hold a clearer premium than raw, but the ceiling stays sensible because the print is everywhere.

Investment outlook

Treat it as an art piece rather than an appreciation play. The standard ETB promo is too common to expect strong gains. If you want upside on this art, the in-set illustration rare or a clean PSA 10 of the Pokemon Center variant is the better target. For most collectors this is a buy-because-you-like-it card.

Demand drivers
Saboteri art that fans single out as a favorite from the Destined Rivals lineupTeam Rocket nostalgia driving the whole set's collectibilityWobbuffet's long-running anime fame from Jessie and JamesTwo collectible variants to chase, standard stamp and Pokemon Center stamp
Graded premium

PSA 10 copies command a real step up over raw, since promo card stock and ETB handling leave plenty of edge and surface wear. The Pokemon Center stamped version tends to carry a higher gem-mint premium than the standard stamp, because fewer people chase the harder variant in PSA 10.

Approx. pull rate

There is no pack pull rate here. SVP 203 was not pulled from boosters. It came one per Destined Rivals Elite Trainer Box, with the Pokemon Center logo variant coming one per Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box. For context on the set it draws from: in Scarlet & Violet sets a Double Rare runs about 1 in 5 packs, an Illustration Rare about 1 in 12, an Ultra Rare about 1 in 15, a Special Illustration Rare around 1 in 90, and a Hyper Rare anywhere from 1 in 300 to 1 in 700. Odds for any one specific card run far longer than that, often into the hundreds of packs for a specific SIR, since there are many cards at each rarity. None of that applies to getting SVP 203, which is simply a matter of buying the right ETB.

Rarity context

Because it is a box-guaranteed promo rather than a random pull, SVP 203 is far easier to get than the set's true chase cards. The scarcity lever is the Pokemon Center stamped variant, which only came through Pokemon Center ETBs and is the harder of the two to find clean.

ArtworkWhy the art matters

Card artwork
Artist · Saboteri

Saboteri is a Pokemon TCG illustrator who became a name to watch during the Scarlet & Violet era, known for busy, character-driven scenes that reward a close look. The Destined Rivals Team Rocket cards were a high point for that style.

The artwork

The scene is a Team Rocket hangout in full swing. Wobbuffet sits front and center doing its thing, with both a male and a female Team Rocket Grunt in frame. The fun is in the background. A Drowzee tries to sneak a drink, and a Sneasel looks thoroughly annoyed at Wobbuffet's antics. It reads like a snapshot of villains off the clock.

Technical details

SVP 203 is the full-art illustration-rare composition reissued as a black star promo. It uses promo card stock rather than booster-pack stock and carries the SV black star promo stamp. The Pokemon Center variant adds the Pokemon Center logo in the stamp area.

What makes it special

The detail density. This is art you keep finding new jokes in, which is why it gets singled out from a set that was already stacked with strong Team Rocket illustrations. The regular print by Kazumasa Yasukuni shows only a single grunt and Wobbuffet's salute, so Saboteri's crowded hangout feels like the fuller version of the scene.

BackgroundAbout Team Rockets Wobbuffet

Wobbuffet debuted in Generation II as the patient counterattacker, but its fame is mostly anime fame. As Jessie's loud, salute-throwing partner that pops out of its Poke Ball uninvited, it became the unofficial mascot of the show's Team Rocket trio. Putting it on a Team Rocket card is a callback fans get instantly.

Why fans love it
  • ›Decades of anime screen time alongside Jessie and James
  • ›Instantly recognizable design and the shouting salute pose
  • ›Strong fit with the Team Rocket theme that defined Destined Rivals
  • ›Cross-generation nostalgia that is not tied to one era of players
Notable appearances
  • ›Recurring member of the anime's Team Rocket trio for years
  • ›The Destined Rivals expansion, where Team Rocket cards anchored the set's collectibility
Competitive relevance

The card sees little to no competitive play. Its value is collector and art driven. The Team Rocket's Pokemon mechanics in Destined Rivals had some deck synergy, but this promo gets bought to display, not to grind tournaments.

Condition notes

Promo stock and ETB packaging are rough on corners and surfaces. Check the black border for edge whitening, look for print lines across the flat color areas, and watch the surface for scuffs from the card sliding around inside the box. Centering varies on promos, so eyeball the borders before you commit to grading.

Grading recommendation

Only worth grading if the raw card is genuinely clean, and ideally if it is the Pokemon Center variant, where a PSA 10 carries a better premium. For a standard-stamp copy with any visible wear, the grading fee likely outruns the payoff. Pre-screen corners and surface under good light first. Read the grading guide →

Storage advice

Sleeve and toploader at minimum. For long-term display, use a UV-protective case, since the art is the whole point and you do not want fading. Keep it out of direct sun. See the storage guide →

Buying advice

Decide which stamp you want before you buy, because the standard SVP and the Pokemon Center variant are different cards. Buy raw if you just want the art on your shelf. Buy already-graded if you want a gem-mint copy without gambling on the grade. Cracking ETBs purely for this promo rarely pencils out unless you also want the box contents. Word on the streetCommunity sentiment

Reception

Well liked. Collectors regularly call the Saboteri Wobbuffet one of the more charming cards in a set that was already praised for its Team Rocket art. The background gags are a big part of why it gets shared and talked about.

Social buzz

Destined Rivals generated a lot of art-focused chatter at launch, and the Team Rocket illustration rares were front and center. Pokemon's own coverage highlighted the set's Team Rocket art. The Wobbuffet scene, with the Drowzee and Sneasel details, is a frequent pick when people post their favorites.

Good to knowFrequently asked questions

It uses the same Saboteri artwork as the in-set illustration rare (#82 in Destined Rivals), but SVP 203 is the black star promo printing. It came in Elite Trainer Boxes rather than booster packs, so it carries a promo stamp instead of a set number and is tracked as its own card in the SVP promo run.
It was a box-topper promo. The standard SVP 203 came one per Destined Rivals Elite Trainer Box, released May 30, 2025. A separate variant with the Pokemon Center logo came in the Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box. You did not pull it from packs.
Same art, different stamp. The Pokemon Center variant carries the Pokemon Center logo and shipped only in the Pokemon Center ETB, which makes it the harder of the two to find, especially in gem mint. Collectors treat them as separate cards.
Only if it is genuinely clean, and the Pokemon Center variant rewards a PSA 10 more than the standard stamp does. Promo stock and ETB handling cause edge and surface wear, so pre-screen corners, borders, and surface under good light before paying a grading fee.
Not really. This promo is a collector and display card. Its appeal is the Saboteri art and Wobbuffet's anime history with Jessie and James, not any tournament role.
